Title I, Part A - Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged
-
Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 provides federal funding to assist school districts in providing educational programs and services that improve academic achievement for at-risk students. Title I, Part A formula funding allotments are determined through calculations using US Census data based on the number of school-aged children living in each public school district.
Qualifying Title I schools within the Fayette County Public Schools system receive funding based on a per-pupil allotment determined by the percentage of rostered students that qualify for free or reduced meals. Schools can be served through targeted assistance or a schoolwide Title I program. Schoolwide programs are a comprehensive schoolwide reform strategy that aims to improve achievement for all students in the school but with a focus on the population that is most at risk for not meeting academic achievement standards. To qualify for a schoolwide program, schools must have at least a 40% poverty rate. Qualifying schools that are not eligible to receive funding for a schoolwide program may provide a targeted assistance program in which supplemental services are provided only for students identified as having the greatest need.
There are currently seven Title I schools within the Fayette County Public Schools district. All of these schools provide a schoolwide Title I educational program. Additional school information can be found here. Title I, Part A funds are utilized to supplement educational programming, to ensure high academic standards are being met, to provide professional development to build staff capacity, and to increase parent/family engagement.
