Equitable Services

  • The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), which was reauthorized as the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA), extends benefits to students, teachers, and educational staff in private schools, including those associated with religiously affiliated schools. Fayette County Public Schools offers equitable services, such as those under Title I, Title II, and Title IV, to eligible private school students, their teachers, and families, ensuring these supports are comparable to those offered to qualifying public school students, educators, and their families.

As per legal requirements, Fayette County Public Schools are obligated to manage federal funds such as Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title IV, as well as oversee materials, programs, and equipment. The school system's duties include conducting the consultation process and providing equitable service guidance, allocating federal funds, and ensuring compliance with program standards.

The consultation process takes place over a three-year period and commences every October. At this time, notifications are issued to all private schools enrolling Fayette County Public Schools students, inviting their involvement in the Equitable Services Program. Should a private school opt to join the program for the upcoming year, the Federal Programs Coordinator engages in continuous consultation throughout the duration of the year.
