Schools are now required by the State of Georgia to train all volunteers as mandated reporters of child abuse. 

In compliance with this law, the Fayette County Board of Education has implemented a new training procedure for ALL school volunteers and chaperones. Prior to volunteering or chaperoning you will need to view a short video about Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting and respond back to the school with a verification that you have completed the video. The video, linked below, is about 7-8 minutes and covers the procedures for providing child abuse mandated reporting as it relates to school volunteers/chaperones.

Once you have viewed the video in its entirety, fill out the form linked below and return it to the front office at your child's school. Please make sure that ALL of the information required on the form is submitted. This information will be entered into a database that is shared by the school system so that you may volunteer at more than one school and it can be verified that you have completed the training.

If you should have questions after viewing the video, please contact the front office and we will be happy to help. We appreciate the time and dedication of our volunteers but it is our priority to protect our students. If you plan to volunteer or chaperone any time during this school year, please go ahead and view the training video and send your confirmation information to your child's school.

Georgia Law O.C.G.A. 35-3-34.2 states that volunteers who may have unsupervised access to children will submit to a fingerprint screening which includes a query through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) of their criminal history.

All volunteers who work with students in an unsupervised capacity, including all chaperones for overnight field trips, must make an appointment with the Fayette County Public Schools' Human Resources department. The Human Resources department will make every effort to conduct background checks in a reasonable fashion; however, results may take up to two weeks. Only upon clearance from the Human Resources department may the volunteer commence their volunteer duties.

Volunteers must undergo a background check every 5 years and a criminal history check each year.
