Wellness Policy
-
In keeping with the updated Fayette County Wellness Policy and in an effort to encourage healthy habits, we are making changes in regards to food products that are brought to school.
At Kedron, approximately 15%- 20% of students have mild to life-threatening food allergies or dietary restrictions. When parents bring birthday treats to give to the class at lunch, we are faced with the challenge of making sure that some students do not receive a cupcake or cookie.
To encourage healthier eating habits and due to allergen restrictions, we will no longer allow cupcakes or cookies to be distributed at school, with the exception of winter and end-of-the-year parties. Additionally, we encourage parties to focus on healthy snacks from the smart snack list. All items served at parties will need to be store-bought and have a clear label listing all ingredients. No homemade items will be accepted. Classroom parties will also need to ensure there are snacks available to all students with allergen restrictions.
There are many other things you can do to help your child feel special on his/her birthday, such as reading to the class, donating a book to the library, or donating a board game to the classroom. Please email your classroom teacher for additional suggestions.
Emphasizing healthy habits supports our philosophy of developing the whole child intellectually, emotionally, and physically. We will also be providing 30 minutes of recess daily for our students to encourage physical activity. Running club is also offered for students in grades 1 through 5 to further the physical development of our students. Please email Coach Peurifoy or Coach Haralson for additional information.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our children healthy and safe.
With Thanks,
