TV host makes friends at PTC Elem.

A lucky class at Peachtree City Elementary made a famous friend when TV host Rutledge Wood served as a mystery reader.

Wood, a McIntosh High alum, is an auto racing analyst and TV host known for shows like “Floor is Lava,” “Top Gear,” and “Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge.” He took a break from his busy schedule to read to the 1st grade class of teacher Casey Newman.

One day during a writing assignment, a student was writing about the Netflix show “Floor is Lava” and a lightbulb went off for Newman. She has been family friends with Wood for many years, even teaching two of his children when she was previously at Huddleston Elementary.

“I just thought that my students would get a kick out of him coming to read to the class,” said Newman.

Wood has a background hosting many shows about cars and racing, so he read the class a Berenstain Bears book about race cars.

“He has such a fun personality and is really good with children and keeping their attention,” said Newman. “I just wanted them to have a fun connection with reading, and they did!”
